Umm.. it really doesn't. I've done it several times on my warrior, I made a new one solely to get that title, and it took me a LONG time to get it. Sure, you might get 4-5k XP per run, but that is peanuts when compared to the total amount needed, and if you do the math of time:XP, you'll be able to see just how time consuming the title is.

Also, I recognize your name from somewhere, in game I think.. Does the name Pete Ward ring a bell?

I understand that once you aquire any of the Survivor titles, you keep that title even if you die after acheiving it. You get level 2, but die trying for level 3, you keep the level 2 title.

Every game I play (D2, DS 1 & 2, Delta Force, etc), I strive to survive. It didn't / doesn't matter if there is a title or not. I HATE to die. There are too many people that rush headlong into a fight, not caring whether they survive it or not. Why? Because there is 'no' penalty. Now GW has a Survivor Title. Those that were careless with their lives are asking for forgiveness. It may be a game, but ALWAYS value your life.

Excuse me? You're telling me that we should've gone a YEAR without a SINGLE death, in anticipation that there'd be a reward system when the next chapter (Factions) came out?

Nope Umm.. I do zos shivros sometimes.. fow and uw a lot.. and I'm from guildwiki *shrug*

But yeah 4-5k experience a troll run. And whats the alternative? Fow quests, sorrows furnace quests, uw quests. No joke, exp from monsters is crap in 8 party. I tried survivor in Fow with an Ob flesh uber tank and got about 40k exp a run in Fow quests. Trolls are faster but too boring for me. However, not for all those troll farmers. If all they changed was hit alt f4 every time they would have died they'd all be legendary survivors in a short while.

Oh and hehe.. survivor should totally have an effect, like wisdom now does. Not rly sure what.. considering one would have to make it so you couldn't use it in pvp

ya this would be cool but alot harder to get this title because of the 'nerf' cant just do a few hundred troll runs >.<

Im not gunna be able to get in casue use pves in pvp and i dont think any monks can be that godly =D

1. I don't have the powers of seeing into the future. When I started GW on day ONE that it was released, there was no such title, and no hint of the title either before it came out.

2. GW made a HUGE deal out the ressurrection portals, and actively encouraged people to not worry about dying because it didn't really matter, charge right in and have fun. And for those of us who played the game the way ANET first intended - we now get penalized.

I would prefer that they introduced a new title similar to survivor which is awarded after staying death free for a certain amount of experience. the survivor title is impressive in it's own right but having other titles that show how long you can go without dying at one time, despite having died a few times as a lvl 2 would be well received by me.

Default Percentage or Ratio be Better?

How about instituting a ratio or percentage system.

My Mesmer has died 1324 times - Yes hours spent spinning nose down in the dirt. But she has 2 073 201xp. So a death:life ratio of roughly 1:1565 is not so bad sounding. Though if you consider it to be 1565xp per death it sounds awful!

My Ritualist who lost Survivor (2) contention died at 258 229. She has 473 764xp now with 21 deaths. So approx 1:22560
That is 22560xp per death - much better!

That way if I want I can improve that ratio by playing smarter (should know how by now!), questing, farming, capping elites.... however. So a goal for each character could be to attain a better ratio...

So…
1:1000 Comatose
1:5000 Asleep at the wheel
1:10 000 Catnapping
1:20 000 Doing OK
1:50 000 Brave
1:100 000 Alive
1:1 000 000 Staying Alive

Or something! Okay I admit those really need help – but you get the idea!

You're comparing apples and ornages here. You aren't credited with those chests, but still have the ability to get the title otherwise. Yes, it sucks my warrior doesn't get credit for the hundreds of chests I opened before the patch, but I still can get the title regardless. With the Survivor Title, every single character I have was made well before titles and can't obtain it. Do I think that's fair? No, no I don't.

I do believe that the title should restart after each death, and you have more then one chance to get it. Yes, those that have it probably hate that concept, and yes I know how hard it is to get it. The idea that I can get a character to 98% completion and then hit a lag spike and die makes me sick. Either I delete him/her and restart, or stare at that 98% forever...I'll take option "c" and not try. But, hey, that's just my two cents...

bah its a pozer title anyway. just eliminate it. All it encourages is people disconnecting if they start to lose anyways. So having it mostly means your a team QUITTER!!! Its certainly not something that would encourage me to take them along in a PUG...

I would just like to say, not all of us do that. You play smart and defensively there should be no need.

I really don't think this title is all that difficult. If you start in Cantha, level 1 can be achieved just after getting to the mainland. I am currently at 1,230,000 or so xp on my necro and I have beaten the entire factions campaign with all masters (meaning I didn't just dwadle to survive, I ran with the group) in every mission. If you play smart, do all the quests, and skill cap it can be achieved without a single moment of farming.

On the topic of changing it, I think there should be a one time reset where everyone would get one chance just as a new character would. If worst came to worst, just sit around as the doorman in a fff run (if you can find a group..)

I do not think it should be able to progress after you die because it would greatly decrease the overall value of the title

EDIT: restarting from 0 after every death is also an O.K. option and I think would be a valid alternative

And on creating of character one should have a checkbox 'going for survivor title', title can only be gained when this is checked and when you die this char get deleted.

/would like to sign but...
If they did this, then they would have to let people back into pre so people could get defender of ascalon title. I'm in the same boat as a lot of people here, main char is from release, has drunk, all 3 protector, all 3 grandmaster, almost maxed chest/id, maxed (well 8) sunspear, r6 lightbringer all but the 3 missing elites...has over 50k deaths...you get the picture. Restarting this character is not an option unless i loose both my legs in some freak accident and am fussed to my char for the rest of my life. Would I like to get both these titles (grind doesn't bother me at all)?? Yes. Will I be surprised if they don't do this? No.

I think it would be nice, but it would be unfair to people who've tried and failed multiple times before getting their survivor title. I talked to a woman in-game one time who displayed Legendary Survivor, and she said that she had lagged to death more than once when she was deep in to getting the title. The fact that she hung in there so long and kept trying makes the title mean that much more for her.

Also, I was thinking of getting defender of ascalon AND survivor by letting someone else death level while just standing there, and then fighting the enemy once its level was high enough so that I don't have to die. Something like that would be extremely cool to have right now, since it's so ridiculous, but it would not longer be that neat otherwise.

The offer is tempting, though, I'll admit that. My elementalist is my first character and I go for every title I can on her.

I'm surprised that so many of you have this many titles maxed. That really is impressive. Just working on all of my titles makes me tired sometimes.

This idea would still involve risk. You risk dying and having to start over and use more time to do this. Not really into intentionally make people devote large amounts of time but for what it's worth, signed.

My Derv at lvl 16 got killed in Mehtani Keys. Actually, let me rephrase: Supposedly killed. I just you're character is still in there a bit after you close the window. I got spiked by some plants, was at 87 hp (remember it clearly) and when I restarted, /deaths equaled 1.

I'm not signing because of this. I would just like a chance for my other characters to get it who are 17 months old.

/signed for 2 reasons:

First: My Nec has 6 titles maxed (almost 7) and as much as I like this game: I am not willing to start a new char. Running around Tyria. Running around Cantha. Running around Elona. Drinking, drinking, drinking. Get the point?

Second: They are most likely to change the Elite-Skill Hunter Title, so that more people can achieve that (depending on their campains). So why not change Survivor? The arguement that it would "cheapen" the title doesn't count, because it is DAMN hard to get 1337k experience. No matter what Level I am. It is just more frustrating if you die at 99% and HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN and it makes you even hate the game for a while, because most of the time it is just some stupid lag. So it should be: Reset counter: yes, have to start new char all over again: no.

By the way: I think no title should be lost forever, I still don't know what to think about Defender of Ascalon.


And what does Anet think? Is there a chance that Gaile will start a poll again like she did with the Skill Hunter Title? I would appreciate that, thanks xD

The entire point of Legendary Survivor is that it can be lost forever. I don't understand why that is so difficult to comprehend.
